Born and raised in Montreal, David Birnbaum studied philosophy at Concordia University and worked as a Computer Systems Analyst and professional drummer before heading west. After graduating from Gastown’s Theatre Arts program, he developed plays as founding Artistic Director of the Imperial Theatre Company before focusing primarily on directing his own films.  Notable cinematic works include: Darkly Machiever (Best Film - EuroUnderground Film Festival, Best Cinematography - Belgrade Association of Cinematographers), In with the Old World (Best Editing - Houston International Film Festival), and Found Objects (Best Short Dramatic Cinematography – Canadian Society of Cinematographers).  He lives in Toronto.
