-----> REVIEW: Found Objects reviewed at Film Threat.
"This is the kind of thing snobby critics love to praise so they can elevate themselves above the commoners. The truth is, though, that this is a lovely looking movie which is done exceedingly well, but lacks any real soul…"

Review here (Turkish).

Reviews from the Festival here, here, and here.
"Films like Found Objects are few and far between with its beautiful yet bizarre storytelling style of no verbal language yet clear story in an unique setting that is familiar enough to understand and wild enough to keep you reeled in hook, line and sinker. The dark, haunting style is enhanced with a score where music tells the story just as much as the visuals. A welcome look at a wild new world."
- Shannon Ridler, Movie Moxie
"Without a doubt one of the best looking and most professional of this year's short films is David Birnbaum's Found Objects. Set who-knows-where and who-knows-when, the kids of an apartment building are trying out for some kind of musical production and are being assigned a variety of instruments. Meanwhile, bombs are exploding non-stop outside the building. There's no explanation for any of this (as with the feature, there's no dialogue) and while I'll admit I didn't fully understand what the film was trying to do, it absolutely succeeded in creating a unique environment and atmosphere."
- Bob Turnbull, Eternal Sunshine of the Logical Mind
4 out of 5 stars. This is one visually stunning and yet bizarre film which looks as though it takes place during WWII. An apartment is perpetually rocked by bombs outside its walls as its inhabitants attempt to hold auditions for a musical recital.

-----> REVIEW: Found Objects reviewed in Kulturpunkt magazine (Croatian).

-----> AWARD: Found Objects has won the award for BEST SHORT FILM at the Imaginaria International Film Festival in Conversano, Italy.
Translation:
"A purity of storytelling that shines through while describing a place without time, space, or history; for the sense of breathlessness and of anxiety, and for the rigour of the camera in describing objects searched and found. The darkness of the image and filmic action can do nothing but extol the sense of the wait, the boredom of the everyday actions interrupted only by the Felliniesque orchestra rehearsals."

-----> REVIEW: Found Objects reviewed in The Montreal Mirror.
"...a strange but oddly humorous short film about a cast of characters intent upon putting on a musical recital, despite the bombing campaign that is raining down on their heads. A sublimely loony film."
Matthew Hayes, The Montreal Mirror

-----> REVIEW: Found Objects reviewed in The Montreal Gazette.
"Skilled hands are at play in David Birnbaum's faintly surreal, dialogue-free 18-minute short set in the future, the past or both. We're in a disintegrating theatre surrounded by prankish kids, ticking clocks, faulty electricity, increasing explosions, men in suits, creaky orchestral manoeuvres, and a brave old guy who tries to keep the currents running on time. Very, very clever, and lovely to watch."
- John Griffin, The Montreal Gazette

-----> REVIEW: Found Objects reviewed at Twitch Film.
"Another stunning piece of surrealist work here but while the Pyes fit more in the Lynch surrealism mold, David Birnbaum belongs more to the claustrophobic, lushly designed school of Olivier Smolders (Nuit Noire) and Delicatessen era Jeunet. A crumbling tenement block, seemingly in the forties, is subjected to aerial bombardment, its tenants blissfully ignoring that obvious fact as they huddle around the television and prepare their children for a musical recital, the entire block powered by a single old man riding a bicycle in the basement. The production values here are astounding, the cinematography dark and rich, every frame packed with compelling images. I’m not entirely sold on the slight tonal shift at the end of the piece but Birnbaum is clearly a major talent to watch."
Todd Brown, Twitch Film Reviews
